This is about a village called Ons-en-Bray in the ancient French region of Picardy, where France began and France begins, says the ad. Ons means Eleven (onze), as it is in fact a chain of 11 interlinked hamlets. The village has a rather aloof attitude to its history and has abandoned its shops and cafés. Its social fabric and identity have suffered, losing spontaneity, with associations and clubs being the only way people get together. Some blame the creeping influence of Beauvais, a large town 12 km away. Not me.
Trop facile.
